F-Secure adds security layer for banking

  • F-Secure has released its Banking Protection feature, an added layer against trojans
  • Now available as a feature of F-Secure Internet Security 2013

F-Secure adds security layer for bankingF-SECURE has released its Banking Protection feature in response to cybercriminals and their use of increasingly sophisticated financial malware.

Mikko Hypponen, chief research officer at F-Secure, described the world of cybercrime as a “a well-orchestrated industry.”

“Criminals without technical know-how can easily purchase malware toolkits designed to steal money from online bank accounts. It’s easier than ever. It’s malware-as-a-service,” he added.

According to F-Secure, 74% of consumers already do online banking and cybercriminals are following the money. They are authoring ever more sophisticated, difficult-to-detect malware called trojans and aiming them at consumers’ browsers.

After infecting a computer, a trojan waits until the customer starts an online banking session, then captures login credentials and personal information and steals money, diverting transactions to criminals.

The security firm’s Banking Protection feature claims to protect online banking sessions against trojans by adding an extra layer of security on top of Internet Security 2013’s antivirus, blocking any connections that could potentially compromise the security of a session.

It works unobtrusively without interrupting the banking session, while still allowing access to sites that are verified safe by F-Secure and there is no special software to install or extra apps; it also works in any browser.

“The Banking Protection feature provides the simplest banking security on the market. Users can just continue to bank the way they always do, but they’re fully protected from possible trojan attacks,” said Sami Visti, product manager at F-Secure.

Banking Protection is now available as a feature of F-Secure’s complete security solution, F-Secure Internet Security 2013. For more information, click here.

All existing users of F-Secure Internet Security 2013 will receive Banking Protection as an automatic update in the first quarter of 2013. To download the update now, click here.

For operators, the company also offers Banking Protection under an operator’s own branding; for more information, click here.
