- First Malaysian cloud service provider to receive 27001 certification from Sirim QAS International
- ISO 27001 provides a holistic, risk-based approach to secure information and compliance, says VADS
VADS Bhd became the first Malaysian cloud service provider to receive from Sirim QAS International Sdn Bhd, the ISO 27001 certification, a voluntary, best practice standard relating to information security.
VADS, which describes itself as a managed ICT/ BPO (Information Communications Technology/ Business Process Outsourcing) service provider, said in a statement that the certification ensures its facilities provide a safe and secure public cloud services platform.
“We are delighted to have achieved the ISO 27001 certification for our public cloud services as it is a testament that our product fulfils the international standard for information security systems,” said VADS chief executive officer Ahmad Azhar Yahya (pic, right).
“VADS acknowledges the importance of data security and how important it is to our customers – our data centres are already ISO 27001-certified,” he added.
The ISO 27001 certificate is an Information Security Management System (ISMS) standard which formally specifies a management system that is intended to bring security under explicit control.
The standard was published in October 2005 by the International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO) and is part of the growing ISO 27000 family, VADS noted in its statement.
“We chose to adopt the ISO 27001 for VADS Cloud Services as … it provides a holistic, risk-based approach to secure information and compliance,” said Ahmad Azhar.
“The ISO 27001 certification will also allow for an independent review of our information security practices while allowing us to comply with legislation on personal information, intellectual property and other such as Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA) 2010 & the Multimedia Commissions Act 1998,” he added.
ISO 27001 certifications lasts for three years and during the period, VADS will be regularly reassessed and visited by an external auditor who will make sure that the standard is being implemented properly. The auditor will recommend improvements where appropriate to ensure that VADS continuously improves its information security measures over the course of the three-year accreditation.
“To be awarded this esteemed certification is no easy task and VADS managed to meet the rigorous requirements of this international benchmark,” said Khalidah Mustafa (pic, left), Sirim QAS International managing director.
“We at Sirim QAS International are proud that a Malaysian company has achieved this prestigious certification and it will definitely create a market differentiation for its product and services,” she added.
Sirim QAS International is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Sirim Bhd, and provides certification, inspection and testing services in Malaysia. It is accredited by the Department of Standards Malaysia (Standards Malaysia) and the United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS).
