Disrupt #22: Meet the Disruptors

  • Matt Chandran and Oliver Tan to share experiences
  • Panellists have raised a combined US$31 mil so far

Disrupt #22: Meet the Disruptors[Note: The venue has been changed to accomodate a bigger crowd]

DNA-TeAM Disrupt makes a trip to Menara TM in Kuala Lumpur next Wednesday (Sept 24) when Telekom Malaysia R&D plays host and sponsor for the 23rd edition of the monthly panel discussion series.

With a host which has people with some serious brainpower working on building new or better products and services, it is apt that the topic for Disrupt is 'Meet the Disruptors.'

We will hear from Matt Chandran, InfoValley Group founder and chief executive officer; and Oliver Tan, cofounder and chief executive officer of ViSenze Ltd. Combined, both entrepreneurs have raised over US$31 million (RM100 million) for their ventures.

For Chandran, it was for iGene Sdn Bhd, an advanced medical informatics company that he claims is valued at US$155 million (RM500 million).

This takes into account the global opportunities that iGene can potentially capture with its digital imaging technology in the forensic, living and animal markets, he says.

iGene is currently rolling out its Digital Autopsy System across 18 facilities in the United Kingdom under a Build-Own-Operate model.

ViSenze, a National University of Singapore spin-off, helps digital businesses with intelligent visual search and recognition tools. Its most recent funding round was in February when it raised US$3.5 million (RM11 million).

It plans to use the investment for its international expansion, a move that Chandran describes as, “The only way to go, for digital-based businesses.”

Tan will be appearing via videoconference, as he is unable to be in Kuala Lumpur. We will also be announcing a third panellist next week.

The monthly DNA-TeAM Disrupt panel discussion and networking session is jointly organised by Digital News Asia (DNA) and the Technopreneurs Association of Malaysia (TeAM), with the Malaysian Business Angels Network as the supporting presenter.

This month’s session will be held on Wednesday, Sept 24, from 5.30pm to 7:30pm, at the TM Auditorium Room at the TM Convention Centre, Menara TM, Jalan Pantai Baru, Kuala Lumpur.
