IDA unit sets up 2FA development and test platform at Nanyang Polytechnic

Testbed for pipeline soft token and innovative 1+ Factor Authentication concept
Includes training of students and industry professionals on 2FA technologies
 
ASSURITY Trust Solutions, a wholly owned subsidiary of the Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore (IDA), will set up a first-ever two-factor authentication (2FA) development and test platform at Nanyang Polytechnic as part of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed by both organisations on Oct 24.
 
The platform will be used as a testbed for its pipeline soft token to be launched in 2015, and 1+ Factor Authentication (FA) concept, Assurity said in a statement.
 
“The rising trend of cyber-security breaches worldwide has led to a surge in demand for innovative 2FA technologies,” said Assurity chief executive officer Charles Fan (pic).
 
“However, there is a shortage of infocomm security professionals with the necessary skills to develop, operate and manage 2FA solutions in Singapore.
 
“Our collaboration with Nanyang Polytechnic will allow us to grow the 2FA security talent pool and testbed our pipeline products and 1+FA concept, which substitutes a One-Time Password (OTP) for the conventional, less secure static password,” he added.
 
Assurity was set up in 2011 by the IDA as the first operator of the National Authentication Framework (NAF).
 
Since its inception, it has rolled out 2FA solutions including the OneKey hard token, SMS OTP and the pipeline soft token, to meet the needs of diverse service providers such as financial services institutions, small and medium enterprises (SMEs), tertiary institutions and healthcare organisations.
 
The 2FA development and test platform will be set up in Nanyang Polytechnic’s School of Engineering to facilitate mutual collaboration on and the development of proof-of-concept solutions.
 
The platform will also give an opportunity for students and industry professionals to be trained and equipped in fast-maturing 2FA security technologies.
