CELCOM Axiata Bhd said it will be hosting TADHack Kuala Lumpur 2014, inviting local mobile application developers to create solutions and a chance to win global prizes worth US$30,000 (RM97,000), as well as the US$1,000 (RM3,200) prize allocated to each participating country or city.
The Malaysian edition of the global TADHack is being organised by Celcom via its League of Extraordinary Developers Challenge (LEDC) programme, the company said in a statement.
TADHack Kuala Lumpur 2014 will be held from June 6-7 in parallel with the main event in Madrid, which will be streamed live so that the KL participants will get the chance to listen to expert speakers from all over the world and discover new technologies that will help to enhance their knowledge and skills.
According to Celcom chief corporate and operations officer Suresh Sidhu (pic), the local TADHack offers local technology entrepreneurs a platform to showcase their talent in producing and promoting ‘Malaysian-flavoured content’ that appeals to the global community.
“TADHack is a global event that gives us the opportunity to show the rest of the world what our local talent has to offer.
“We want to find the next big thing in telco applications and the local initiative serves as a catalyst to support and promote Malaysian developers to unlock their full potential and at the same time, nurture Malaysia’s mobile application industry on a next-generation platform,” he said.
Those who are attending TADHack will have to register for the event at the Celcom website and participants who are interested to sign up for the hackathon are required to register to ensure successful submission.
They must then proceed to create a demo video of their hacks, upload it to YouTube and submit the link to [email protected]. Unfortunately, the deadline for video submissions is 5pm (MYT), May 30.
“Through TADHack Kuala Lumpur 2014, we [hope] to create more innovative and revenue-generating voice and SMS value-added services (VAS) that meet the criteria of the event’s Priority Themes in 2014,” said Suresh.
“We aim to sign up at least 20 new developers who meet the criteria, generate at least eight new innovative VAS ideas and commercialise at least one creative VAS,” he added.
TADHack is a global independent initiative to elevate the profiles of telecom application developers by providing resources and create a sustainable and profitable telecom application ecosystem.
