Accenture banks on sustainability services with new head

• Appoints sustainability lead in a bid to embed discipline into clients from ground up
• Charlton was formerly senior economic advisor to Australia's prime minister

ACCENTURE has announced the appointment of Dr Andrew Charlton as its sustainability services lead for growth markets, effective June 1.

Charlton’s (pic) appointment further accelerates Accenture’s momentum of the responsible business agenda across the region, growing the company’s portfolio of sustainability services offerings, the company said in a statement.

He will be responsible for ensuring sustainability is embedded into Accenture’s client work by design, and helping clients create value and impact.

“Sustainability and climate change have risen to the forefront as a critical C-suite agenda across the world, even as companies continue to deal with the business impact of the ongoing pandemic,” said Gianfranco Casati, chief executive officer, growth markets at Accenture.

“Accenture is stepping up as a leader in responsible business with bold ambitions. The appointment of Andrew to lead sustainability services in our growth markets is a vital part of this strategy.”

Charlton joined Accenture in February 2020 as part of the AlphaBeta acquisition in Australia. He is the founder and CEO of the strategic economic consultancy, which works with private and public institutions to tackle the largest societal challenges utilising data and analytics at the core.

Charlton was once the senior economic advisor to the prime minister of Australia during the world economic crisis from 2008-10.

He was also the prime minister’s representative at the G20 Leaders Summits and the Copenhagen Conference of the Parties to the UNFCCC (COP15).

He was named a Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum. Dr Charlton holds a doctorate in economics from Oxford University, where he was a Rhodes Scholar.
