airasia MOVE (formerly known as airasia Superapp) has announced Nadia Omer (pic) as its new CEO, effective 26 October 2023. She is taking over from Mohamad Hafidz Mohd Fadzil, who has served as the acting CEO of airasia Move since April this year.
Nadia is the fourth CEO of the superapp, which started life as airasia.com in 2002, the website of AirAsia. Driven by a desire to be more than a mere website, the superapp ambitions started taking shape in 2019 with Karen Chan as its first CEO when the superapp ambitions were announced. She held the role from Jan 2020 to May 2021 before moving on to being a board member of the superapp. She is currently the group chief commercial officer of AirAsia Aviation Group Limited (AAAGL). Amanda Woo replaced her in May 2021 and left in April 2023, replaced by Hafidz, though as acting CEO.
In a statement, airasia MOVE highlighted Nadia's track record in category conversion, consumer habit change, and ecosystem value creation. She brings extensive experience from her previous roles at P&G, Nestle, PepsiCo, and her most recent position as the chief business officer of Cars24, Southeast Asia.
Nadia's appointment is expected to drive airasia MOVE forward, making it the preferred travel platform in the region, offering the best value to its customers. She holds a Master of Business Administration from the Lahore University of Management and a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics, Statistics, and Economics.
Tony Fernandes, CEO of Capital A and Executive Chairman of Move Digital, expressed excitement about the future of airasia MOVE and welcomed Nadia.
“I have been actively interacting with Nadia since the initial announcement of her appointment back in September and have no doubt that she will hit the ground running the moment she officially steps in. As announced last month, we are entering into a new era of travel innovation, and I believe that Nadia’s multifaceted background has uniquely positioned her to lead airasia Move forward as Asean’s preferred one-stop travel platform,” Fernandes said.
He said that Nadia will collaborate closely with BigPay, led by Zubin Rada Krishnan, to provide seamless access to travel and financial services on a single platform with integrated financial features. He thanked Hafidz for his contributions as the acting CEO of airasia Move over the past six months as Hafidz transitions to another role within the Capital A Group.
Nadia thanked Tony for his trust and mentorship, emphasising her commitment to providing the best value and industry-leading products to airasia Move customers.
“My first priority and commitment is to our airasia Move customers, always offering best-in-class value and industry-leading products to make travel that much easier, safer, and fun. I count on our teams to make every trip a delightful one so that we can win our customers' hearts to make airasia Move the travel app of choice in Asean,” she added.
