AirAsia Super App appoints Amanda Woo as CEO

  • Brings with her 15 years’ experience in e-commerce, lifestyle brand, digital marketing
  • Formerly chief commercial officer at AirAsia, spearheading AirAsia’s entry to Indochina

AirAsia Super App appoints Amanda Woo as CEO AIRASIA Super App, formerly known as airasia.com, has announced the appointment of Amanda Woo as its chief executive officer (CEO) effective May 19.

Amanda will report to Aireen Omar, president (AirAsia Digital) of AirAsia Group, the company said in a statement

“The Super App is at an important stage of its growth, focusing on its three verticals: travel, e-commerce and fintech. It is crucial that we continue to innovate and find ways to grow its stickiness with consumers across all three verticals in our quest to become Asean’s preferred 'super app.'

“Amanda’s experience in the past decade with AirAsia will allow her to maximise the strong data, network and technology that we have built over the years to achieve that goal,” said Aireen.

According to executive chairman of AirAsia Group Kamarudin Meranun, Woo’s appointment comes naturally as she has been working closely with previous AirAsia Super App CEO Karen Chan to drive it since inception. This is an apt continuation based on Woo’s extensive experience and digital e-commerce and ecosystems.

“Her promotion will act as a catalyst for AirAsia Super App’s growth, and we are confident that her addition to our leadership team will help to accelerate our progress towards becoming the most preferred super app in Asean.”

Woo joined AirAsia in 2012, and has spearheaded commercial initiatives across various entities under the AirAsia ecosystem.

She brings with here over 15 years of experience in e-commerce, lifestyle brand and retail marketing with prominent global brands, the company said.

AirAsia said that her leadership has been “instrumental to the expansion of AirAsia’s business in key Asean markets.” Her notable achievements include AirAsia’s entry into new markets in Indochina and turnaround of the Indonesian market.

Woo was promoted in early-2019 to chief commercial officer, where she was part of the founding team of the AirAsia Super App, and as CEO will continue to accelerate the growth of AirAsia Super App.

“I am honoured to be given this exciting opportunity, and look forward to working closely with the management team and to achieve the goals that have been set out for airasia super app,” Woo said.

Chan, the former AirAsia Super App CEO, will assume a board position with the Super App business.
