AmBank has enhanced digital payments for Majlis Bandaraya Seberang Perai (MBSP) in partnership with PayNet.
In a statement, the bank claimed that this collaboration makes Majlis Bandaraya Seberang Perai (MBSP) the first local council in Malaysia to adopt DuitNow online banking/wallets and dynamic DuitNow QR in Malaysia.
It added that the aim is to ease the payment collection process of MBSP by offering a seamless, secure and more convenient banking experience through these services.
Raja Teh Maimunah Raja Abdul Aziz (pic), managing director, wholesale banking, AmBank group said the bank is pleased to have MBSP on board to adopt its cashless payments services.
“We are proud to be a part of MBSP’s vision to make Seberang Perai resilient, inclusive, green, and a smart city driven by technology.
“We hope other state councils will follow suit in embracing digital solutions that will ultimately improve operational processes and drive efficiency,” she said.
MBSP said it launched Aspire Seberang Perai on May 24 and the smart app enables its customers to make cashless payments to MBSP using the DuitNow QR and DuitNow online banking/wallets.
During the first phase, MBSP said it offered facilities such as payment and review of assessment tax, compound payment as well as payment of rental for MBSP premises.
With the launch of this smart app, MBSP said it is targeting to convert 38% of the conventional payments via the counter to migrate and use the MBSP Aspire mobile application by December 2022.
As of July 2022, there are around 4,000 registered users for MBSP Aspire, it claimed.
Azhar Bin Haji Arshad (pic), the mayor of Seberang Perai, said in continuing the digital transformation agenda of Penang, MBSP has taken a proactive step with the cashless payment initiative by ensuring that Penang becomes a smart state by 2030 by performing transactions electronically via cashless payment solutions.
DuitNow QR is Malaysia’s national QR code standard established by Payments Network Malaysia (Paynet), which promotes and encourages the use of digital payments.
AmBank said it has been working closely with PayNet to support their products, specifically for DuitNow QR, which it has offered to various businesses.
