ASUS introduces the Zenfone 8 series smartphones in Malaysia

• Zenfone 8 is a more compact-yet-powerful package with a 120Hz display
• Zenfone 8 Flip offers unique flip camera module with a Sony triple-camera system  

ASUS Malaysia has announced the availability of the all-new Zenfone 8 series.

The latest smartphone series comes in two versions: the more compact Zenfone 8, and the photography-focused Zenfone 8 Flip, the company said in a statement. Both devices are powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 5G mobile platform, making them 5G-ready devices.

The Zenfone 8 is the smaller of the two, sporting a 5.9-inch display, while the Zenfone 8 Flip features a larger 6.67-inch screen. Both sports Samsung AMOLED displays with in-display fingerprint sensors.

The Zenfone 8’s display features 120Hz refresh rates, alongside 1,000-nits brightness. The Zenfone 8 Flip offers a lower-refresh rate at 90Hz, but has an all-screen, 100% notch-free NanoEdge display.

Both devices carry Sony sensors for its cameras. The Zenfone 8 rocks a dual-camera system, starting with a 64MP Sony IMX686 main camera offering dual-pixel autofocus, optical image stabilisation and higher light sensitivity.

This is coupled with a 12MP ultra-wide Sony IMX363 shooter that also can take macro shots. Its front-facing camera is a 12MP Sony IMX663 punch-hole selfie shooter.

The Zenfone 8 Flip, on the other hand, offers a more unique camera experience. It features a Flip Camera – a motorised flip-up module triple-camera system that can be used for front and rear shots.

The main camera is a 64MP Sony IMX686 wide-angle shooter, paired with a Sony IMX363 ultra-wide camera and a telephoto lens enabling 3X optical zoom (up to a total of 12X zoom).

For its battery, the Zenfone 8 carries a 4,000mAh battery while the larger Zenfone 8 Flip carries a heftier 5,000mAh battery. Both smartphones support Quick Charge 4.0 and Power Delivery (PD) charging.

Both the Zenfone 8 and Zenfone 8 Flip are now available for purchase in Malaysia.

The Zenfone 8 comes in two variants: an 8GB RAM + 128GB ROM version and a 16GB+265GB model. The former one prices at US$654 (RM2,699), while the latter goes for US$799 (RM3,299) and is exclusively available only via Shopee.

The Zenfone 8 Flip, on the other hand, only features a 8GB+256GB configuration. It is priced at RM2,999.
