Awantec expects first Google cloud region in Malaysia to speed cloud adoption across public sector, corporatesIn response to Google Cloud announcing its plans to open its first cloud region in Malaysia, as announced last week on 12 August, Syed Naqiz Shahabuddin (pic), Chairman of Awantec Bhd comments that the move by Google Cloud will be a gamechanger in accelerating Malaysia’s digital transformation journey.

“Awantec, as Google Cloud's exclusive Managed Service Provider (MSP) to the Government of Malaysia, as well as a Google Cloud Authorised Training Partner (ATP), applauds this major milestone and investment by Google Cloud, as this will empower Malaysia’s public sector to innovate and deliver critical new citizen-centric digital services at scale,” Syed Naqiz said.

When launched, the Malaysia cloud region is set to be Google Cloud’s 12th cloud region in Asia Pacific, and its 3rd cloud region in Southeast Asia.

“This expansion will strengthen our proposition as a MSP and as an authorised partner of Google Cloud in Malaysia. We commend Google Cloud’s efforts to retain data sovereignty and boost digital transformation locally with an emphasis on speed, security and scalability,” he adds.

Awantec believes that organisations in Malaysia are set to have stronger controls over data through Google Cloud’s investment in local cloud infrastructure. Latency will be greatly reduced as well, allowing cloud-based services to run faster and meet local regulatory and compliance requirements.

Awantec expects this buildout to enhance its capabilities in terms of delivering better customer experiences, in a quick and secure manner.

“Our partnership with Google Cloud will continue to enable government agencies to streamline cloud adoption processes and infrastructure costs, and take advantage of the latest cloud-based tools and capabilities, such as data analytics, artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML), and the internet of things (IoT) to elevate the citizen experience,” said Syed Naqiz.
