The ASEAN-based independent telecommunications infrastructure company, EdgePoint Infrastructure, through EdgePoint Towers Sdn Bhd, has entered into a partnership with the Sunway Group to enhance the telecommunications infrastructure within Sunway City Kuala Lumpur.

In a statement, both entities have highlighted that the deployment will benefit Sunway Pyramid, the themed mega mall in the country, the adjoining Sunway Pyramid Convention Centre as well as Sunway Medical Centre.

In the recently signed agreement, EdgePoint will be deploying refreshed neutral hosted In-building Coverage (IBC) systems at the mall and convention centre. These next generation coverage systems, which are also 5G ready, will enable seamless mobile coverage throughout the mall, in line with the group’s target to provide seamless connectivity towards catering to the annual footfall of 42 million coming through Sunway City Kuala Lumpur each year, they said.

Furthermore, the agreement will also see similar IBC deployments across other Sunway-owned commercial properties, they added.EdgePoint equips Sunway with next-gen infrastructure ready for 5G

Muniff Kamaruddin (pic) , CEO of EdgePoint Towers Sdn Bhd said the firm is pleased to be selected by Sunway Group as one of their preferred partners for IBC systems across its commercial properties, beginning with Sunway Pyramid.

“As an independent digital infrastructure company, EdgePoint has the operational readiness and financial capability for rolling out neutral IBC systems compatible with all Mobile Network Operators, in line with Sunway Group’s requirements. The success of this project with one of Southeast Asia’s leading conglomerates will further strengthen EdgePoint’s position as a next generation infrastructure partner for corporations seeking to rise above the competition,” he added.

Meanwhile, Anandan Balakrishnan, CEO of Sunway Digital Wave Sdn Bhd said Sunway understands that seamless connectivity is part and parcel of its customers’ lifestyle now, especially with the ubiquity of e-wallets as a payment option.

“We embarked on this effort to ensure our developments are equipped to provide the best possible connectivity at all times. At EdgePoint, we found a towerco partner that has the capacity to meet our exact requirements as well as the ability to on board all Mobile Network Operators onto our communications infrastructure,” he added.

“Their industry insights, strong relationships and analytics-backed in-house design team will help us expand enhanced telecommunications infrastructure to other Sunway-owned commercial properties in the coming years,” Balakrishnan said.

The installation of the IBC systems and adoption of 5G network technology builds upon Sunway’s digital transformation journey since 2000.  The group’s digital arm is accelerating digital adoption across the conglomerate’s business divisions and further integrating technology into Sunway City Kuala Lumpur which it claims is Malaysia’s first integrated green city. In addition to being a smart sustainable city,

It is also advancing the “15-minute city” model, where people can easily navigate essential services and business premises within a 15-minute walk or bike ride.
