International networks continue to recognise the strategic advantages of the Malaysia Internet Exchange (MyIX), with GlobalXtreme under PT Internet Madju Abad Milenindo from Indonesia and Byteplus Pte. Ltd. recently joining as members.
GlobalXtreme, a leading Indonesian Internet Service Provider, and Byteplus, an Over-The-Top (OTT) provider, have joined a growing list of organisations benefiting from the value offered by this neutral and non-profit Malaysian internet exchange. This brings MyIX’s total membership to 125.
MyIX, established under the guidance of the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), enables efficient local and regional data routing, improving speed, reliability, and cost-effectiveness for all participants. The exchange’s expanding ecosystem is driven by a ‘network effect’, where each new participant enhances the overall value for every member.
Chairman Chiew Kok Hin (pic) welcomed the new members, noting that their participation reflects MyIX’s reputation as a trusted hub in Southeast Asia.
“MyIX is renowned for offering opportunities for greater interconnection, reduced latency, and improved user experiences. These partnerships reinforce Malaysia’s role as a digital nexus, attracting key players from across the region,” Chiew said.
He added that MyIX remains dedicated to supporting Malaysia’s digital economy aspirations and will continue to play a pivotal role in achieving the nation’s target of having the digital economy contribute 25.5% of GDP by the end of 2025.
Earlier this year, MyIX reduced its port fees by 10% to 20%, ensuring more affordable access for members and positioning itself as one of the most competitively priced internet exchanges in the region.
On the corporate social responsibility front, MyIX recently concluded its second Talent Development Programme, which aims to equip fresh graduates and early-career professionals with skills relevant to internet infrastructure and cybersecurity.
“As more international networks join MyIX, we remain committed to fostering a thriving digital environment,” Chiew said. “The continued growth in membership, coupled with our initiatives to build local talent and enhance connectivity, positions Malaysia to emerge as a key player in Southeast Asia’s digital landscape,” he concluded.
