UNIVERSITI Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) has selected Maxis to provide two of its campuses at Sungai Long and Kampar with high speed Internet services.

Through the collaboration, each of the campuses will be equipped with 1Gbps fibre Internet access with inter-campus link, as well as Maxis’ latest Internet Protocol Metro Area Network (IPMAN), which enables UTAR to scale up their bandwidth seamlessly to much higher speeds when they become available in the future.

The campuses will also enjoy high speed mobile connectivity built around the fastest 4G LTE network in the country.

“The Internet has become so critical in our lives, and for students especially, they are central to academic, administration and lifestyle activities. We are pleased to be working with UTAR to provide its students with converged offerings of our own build high speed fibre as well as our Always On mobile connectivity.

“These are essential capabilities in managing high data usage commonly seen today. We are also proud to have been selected by UTAR to deliver a design that meets their commercial and technical considerations,” said Maxis chief enterprise business officer Paul McManus.

“We simply cannot ignore the importance of staying connected, more so with high speed connectivity in today’s digital age. High speed Internet access is essential for campus life and will be beneficial especially during a surge in traffic, such as during our Open Day where there are new student intakes and registrations throughout the year.

“With a quality network and higher capacity that Maxis has provided, we can certainly expect a better student experience, especially during peak periods,” said Prof Ts Dr Faidz Abd Rahman, UTAR vice president of R&D and Commercialisation.

Maxis has been collaborating with universities for campus-wide connectivity for a number of years now. Previously, it partnered with University Malaya for total connectivity for a more enriching experience for students, faculty members and administrative staff.

In 2018, it went into a partnership with University Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) to enable UKM’s 13 campuses nationwide to be connected via Maxis’ WiFi services. In addition, selected UKM buses were also been fitted with free WiFi on board to ensure that students are connected on-the-go.
