Maxis and Digital Penang have signed a MoU to boost the digital and technology ecosystem space in Penang’s micro, small, and medium enterprise (MSME) sector. The collaboration aims to support the state government's vision of becoming a family-focused, green, and smart state by 2030.

Digital Penang will play a pivotal role in fostering connections within Maxis and the creative digital district community. They will facilitate the transformation of MSMEs and empower entrepreneurs through training initiatives.

Maxis, as an integrated solutions provider, will use its business digital solutions, 5G Mobile, and fibre connectivity services to help MSMEs in Penang increase their digital adoption. It will also provide opportunities for business owners to upskill or reskill through the eKelas Usahawan community programme. This free digital marketing programme equips entrepreneurs, especially those from the B40 segment, with basic digital tools and skills to establish a greater digital presence.

Zairil Khir Johari, Penang EXCO Infrastructure, Transport and Digital Development, and board director of Digital Penang described the partnership with Maxis is a milestone in transforming Penang into a digital technology hub.

“The Penang state government is committed to lifting our communities and ensuring our MSMEs stay competent in this digital age. This aligns with the Penang2030 vision and the Digital Transformation Master Plan."

Ng Kwang Ming, CEO of Digital Penang emphasised the timeliness of this partnership and the work to increase awareness of the value and benefits of digitalisation among communities and MSMEs.

“This will enable them to increase their online presence and extend their business reach beyond Penang's borders,” he said.

Prateek Pashine, Maxis chief enterprise business officer, declared that Maxis is committed to empower Malaysian MSME businesses with digital tools to participate in the digital economy.
