Motorist appoints Angela Poh as deputy CEO

Motorist, a leader in automotive technology solutions, has contributed to female empowerment in Singapore’s increasingly important digital sector by appointing Angela Poh (pic) as the deputy CEO of the company, effective 1 March 2024.

With International Women's Day on March 8, the promotion of a capable female executive in a fast-growing Singaporean company is both timely and positive. It demonstrates women's advancement in their chosen careers, in addition to their accomplishments as equals in family units, community groups, and society as a whole.

This appointment of Poh to the senior management post of Motorist's second-in-command is also in line with the White Paper on Singapore Women's Development, which calls for workplaces to reflect the nation's societal values of fairness, inclusivity, and progressivity. Poh now joins the ranks of women in Singapore with leadership roles. According to a Deloitte report, 13.1% of Singaporean companies in 2021 were led by a female CEO, the highest share globally.

Poh previously served as the chief revenue officer managing Motorist's revenue streams. The company ranks among Singapore's top 100 fastest-growing companies, according to a list compiled by The Straits Times and Germany-based global research firm Statista, for three consecutive years.

The digital startup is currently operational in Singapore (its headquarters), Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam.

Expressing excitement over her new role, Poh stated, "As the newly appointed co-driver of the company, I will do my best, together with all my colleagues, to grow the business further, not only in Singapore where it all began nine years ago, but also in our other Asean markets."

Motorist CEO Damian Sia commented, "Poh's well-earned promotion will allow me to focus more on the regional expansion of Motorist. We aim to bring our super app and comprehensive automotive services to six more countries by 2026, starting with the Philippines."

Prior to joining Motorist, Poh spent over 15 years at American Express, with her last role focused on regional commercial payments business development. She holds a bachelor's degree in commerce from Australia's Murdoch University and is married with two children.
