MALAYSIA’S largest online marketplace Mudah.my, says it is focusing its efforts on enhancing its mobile experience as almost 75% of its daily visitors are mobile users.
Based on a report from App Annie, Mudah.my said its Android app was ranked as the most downloaded app on the Google PlayStore in the last 1,000 days within the Shopping category.
“Mobile is a big area for us to focus on. As new users come in, we need to stay relevant and think of ways of utilising new technologies,” said Mudah.my’s chief executive officer Gaurav Bhasin (pic, above).
Mudah.my said it has been investing a lot into machine learning and big data over the past year to create a more personalised and better experience for users.
All this just goes to show just how much the e-commerce landscape has evolved with more users shopping for items on their smartphones instead of desktop computers. The jump in mobile users is remarkable considering that three years ago only 15% of its users were using mobile devices.
“Today we approximate that 7.5 million users, which works out to one in three Malaysian adults, visit us every month,” he claimed.
On a daily basis, Mudah.my says it has 750,000 daily users, an increase of 10% in comparison to the same period last year.
As an online marketplace for people to buy and sell anything, Mudah.my claims it has 1.4 million sellers, many of whom are individuals.
“We charge only professionals who sell on our platforms and not individuals,” said Bhasin. “In a sense, we are helping empower individual Malaysians who want to create value out of things that are around their house.”
Though consumer sentiment has been hit due to the slowing economy, Bhasin believes that Mudah.my will not be affected by economic cycles as people always think of making the best of every resource they have.
“Those who want to buy new items will look into selling an item on Mudah.my and may even consider buying something that is second hand instead of brand new,” said Bhasin.
Recently, Mudah.my celebrated its 9th anniversary and announced the creation of a music video to commemorate the occasion with a song titled “Memang Mudah” (It is Easy).
The video was produced in collaboration with several Malaysian artistes such as rapper Altimet, singer and song writer Sasi The Don and songstress Maya Hanum.
Commenting on the platform’s popularity, Bhasin said, “We are humbled by the stories of millions of Malaysians who have used our platform. We would not be where we are today without their support.”
