Sunway Group and the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) have signed a three-year technical and vocational education and training (TVET) memorandum of understanding (MoU) focused on skills sharing, industrial training programmes, and human capital development.

In a statement, Sunway said that in collaboration with Ibrahim Sultan Polytechnic (PIS) under MOHE’s Department of Polytechnic and Community Colleges, the partnership will offer internship opportunities to TVET students from Malaysia’s southern region.

A central element of this partnership is the implementation of structured industrial training programmes aimed at enhancing students’ practical skills and preparing them for evolving industry demands.

To date, more than 200 TVET students nationwide have benefited from Sunway’s ongoing partnerships with Universiti Teknologi MARA, the National Youth Advanced Skills Training Institute, and various polytechnics and community colleges. The company has also extended internship and skills-sharing opportunities to other public TVET institutions, reinforcing its commitment to advancing technical and vocational education.

Sunway Group chief HR officer, Foo Shiang Wyne, expressed confidence in the partnership. “We believe the synergy established through this MoU will enable us to produce a competent workforce that meets market demands. Sunway is committed to providing quality industrial training and talent development opportunities for PIS students.”

Senior director of competency at the Department of Polytechnic and Community Colleges (JPPKK), Razak bin Sabtu, highlighted the collaboration’s importance. “This partnership demonstrates JPPKK’s commitment, alongside PIS, to equip graduates with skills that align with industry demands. Sunway is a strategic partner, helping expand training opportunities and facilitating job placements for our graduates.”

The signing ceremony was attended by representatives from Sunway, along with senior officials from MOHE’s Department of Polytechnic and Community Colleges and PIS. This collaboration marks a significant step in strengthening ties between academia and industry to advance Malaysia’s human capital development.

The MoU aligns with Sunway’s broader efforts to uplift Malaysians through education and upskilling across five key industries: hospitality, culinary, facilities and equipment maintenance, automotive, and healthcare. It also supports the Malaysian government’s increased focus on vocational education, reflected in Budget 2025’s allocation rise from US$1.5 billion (RM6.8 billion) to US$1.7 billion (RM7.5 billion).
