Touch ‘n Go eWallet expands cross-border payments with Alipay+Touch ‘n Go Group, via TNG Digital Sdn Bhd, owner and operator of Touch ‘n Go eWallet, has announced the expansion of its cross-border payments capability to Singapore, led by the eWallet’s acceptance at ComfortDelGro taxis.

In a statement, the company said this capability was made available through a collaboration with Alipay+, a suite of global cross-border digital payments and marketing solutions operated by Ant Group.

“This is the beginning of a further expansion of our payment services to Singapore,” said Alan Ni, chief executive officer, TNG Digital.

“ComfortDelGro is the operator of the largest taxi network in Singapore, operating about 9,000 taxis across the city and we view this as an excellent milestone to expand our payments proposition to Singapore and are pleased to have been able to bring our users this added convenience and use-case.

“As borders reopen and international travel resumes, I expect our users to enjoy using the eWallet when we have more acceptance points in Singapore, in the exact same seamless way as how they would use the eWallet in Malaysia,” said Ni.

He added that the company will continue to grow its acceptance network in time to come.

Cheng Guoming, general manager, Alipay+ Global Payment Partnership, Ant Group, said Touch ‘n Go eWallet is a long time and close partner to Ant Group, and the leading mobile wallet in Malaysia serving over 17 million local users to meet their daily life needs from making payments to investing.

“The latest collaboration with Alipay+ to enable and further expand its cross-border usage is yet another innovation to allow its users to travel with the eWallet and enjoy a hassle-free and seamless payment experience outside their home country,” he said.

In pre-pandemic times, more than 350,000 people commute daily between Malaysia and Singapore using the causeway.

With the reopening of the borders between Malaysia and Singapore, this collaboration with Alipay+ is indeed timely, the Alipay+ said.

As part of the promotional campaign to commemorate this new collaboration, Touch ’n Go eWallet users can enjoy some discounts to celebrate the launch.

Users are entitled to an instant discount, from US$0.90 (RM4) and US$1.36 (RM6), off their total fare when they ride ComfortDelGro taxis on the Touch ‘n Go eWallet app until 25 June 2022.

The discounts are varied at different weeks and capped at the first 300 transactions daily.
