Touch ‘n Go unveils upgraded card allowing NFC relaods
By Digital News Asia April 25, 2022
- No surcharge for consumers when performing reloads
- Card comes with higher encryption, better security
Touch ‘n Go (TNG) Group has announced the launch of the upgraded Touch ‘n Go Card which the company claimed provides users the ability to perform card reloads anytime, anywhere from their Touch ‘n Go eWallet app on their mobile devices.
In a statement, the company said users of this card and service will also experience no surcharge when reloads are performed.
In terms of design, the upgraded card is minimalistic and comes in a fresh look of pastel pink to pastel blue gradient.
This upgraded Touch ‘n Go card also comes with higher encryption levels to promote better security, it added.
Each card is also fully registered by virtue of it being tagged to a Touch ‘n Go eWallet account when mobile reloads are performed, TNG said.
According to Effendy Shahul Hamid, group chief executive officer of Touch ‘n Go Group, the company is pleased to be able to bring this to market, addressing the most common pain point for users of our cards – reload inconvenience.
“With this enhanced card offering, our users can now choose to obtain a card that they can reload anytime or anywhere from their Touch ‘n Go eWallet app on their mobile phones. There will also be no reload surcharges levied for the use of this service,” he said.
The upgraded card is available for purchase at US$2.30 (RM10), the same price as the older version Touch ‘n Go cards and is available for purchase on the Touch ‘n Go eWallet app as well as at selected retail locations nationwide.
Once users receive the upgraded Touch ‘n Go card, they will need to link the card to their Touch ‘n Go eWallet, TNG said.
The process is simple and straightforward, it said, adding that users will just need to hold the card to the back of their NFC-compatible smartphone for five seconds to activate the new card.
After completing the linkage, users can then view the card’s balance and perform reloads. This function is currently available for both iOS and Android devices, and users can link up to 5 Touch ‘n Go cards to their Touch ‘n Go eWallet.
“We expect demand for these upgraded cards to be very high. However, given the global chip shortage, we expect demand to exceed supply,” said Effendy.
“Therefore, I’d like to urge patience amongst our users as we try to get these cards to you as soon as possible,” he added.
Should stocks for these cards run out on the Touch ‘n Go eWallet app or retail channels, users are advised to register their interest on the Touch ‘n Go eWallet app, and they will be notified when these cards become available for purchase.
Similar to the current Touch ‘n Go card, the upgraded Touch ‘n Go card can be used for cashless payments as usual across all use-cases including toll highways, public transportation services, and over 700 parking sites in Peninsular Malaysia, it said.
