UEM Group embarks on 3-year US$36.3 mil cloud based ERP journey

BANKING on the advantages of flexibility and scalability, UEM Group Berhad (UEM Group), a Malaysian based regional engineering infrastructure and services group, is investing some RM150 million on an integrated Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) cloud solution.

“We underwent a detailed evaluation process over a period of 18 months to ensure our needs are well documented and that we have the best companies, systems and software providers working with us on this landmark project,” said Izzaddin, Group Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of UEM Group.

DNA had first broke the news of UEM Group looking into a comprehensive IT  transformation journey to better support its business objectives in June 2015 with multiple vendors submitting their proposals.

It has chosen to partner with four large players for its three-year transformation journey. Tech Mahindra ICT Services (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd (Tech Mahindra) has been appointed as the system implementer. Oracle Corporation Malaysia Sdn Bhd (Oracle) has been chosen as the software principal with PwC Consulting Services (M) Sdn Bhd (PwC) in charge of project management while Ernst & Young Advisory Services Sdn Bhd (EY) is responsible for quality assurance.

“It is time we revolutionise our technological capabilities as it would allow us to enhance our ability to respond to the changes and needs of all our internal and external stakeholders,” Izzaddin said, explaining the rationale behind the investment.

“With this project, we will be delivering a single and group-wide ERP platform within harmonised business processes supported by standard-based robust and secure cloud solutions. This allows us to streamline and improve our processes, achieve a higher level of productivity and transparency as well as enhance collaboration across UEM Group of Companies,” he adds.

An ERP platform will not only allow UEM Group to better manage all of its information through total systems integration but it also incorporate as well as manage all of the Company’s processes.

“All the necessary real-time data will be at our fingertips which gives us instant insights, effective as well as informed decisions can be made on a timely basis for our internal consumption and that for our customers, and at the same time enhance our compliance and governance,” Izzaddin says.
