AT THE inaugural Axiata Group townhall at the Axiata Arena with over 1000 Axiata and Celcom employees as well as partners, investees and beneficiaries, Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak witnessed the launch of the Cashless Ecosystem for Malaysia through Boost in conjunction with partners such as SME Corp, AmBank, PLUS, UTM and UiTM.
This partnership will serve to expand the cashless ecosystem in Malaysia and enable local businesses to tap into the card-less mobile electronic wallet lifestyle.
Axiata chairman Azman Mokhtar said: “In line with the Prime Minister’s call for Malaysian corporations to be prepared for change, as the nation’s driver of innovation and advanced technologies, Axiata is committed in its vision to transform Malaysia into a competitive digital and financially inclusive economy.”
Boost is now a leading e-wallet with over 1.7 million users with online and offline merchants located in over 8,000 locations.
Boost aims to revolutionise the way Malaysian consumers transact by creating a seamless payment experience without cash or cards. It serves the youth segment and mass consumers to merchants at selected pasar malam, food trucks, food courts and across various industries such as F&B, entertainment, transportation, online shopping and bookstores to name a few.
As a lifestyle application, users can perform services such as buying prepaid top ups and digital vouchers as well as gifting them, free cash transfers and even “Go Dutch” with its unique split bills feature. They also get instant cash back when using the service with rewarding and addictive experiences.
Acknowledging Axiata as one of the leading drivers of Malaysia’s digital economy, Najib expressed his support of the group in spearheading innovative digital and financial inclusion initiatives, especially in addressing small and micro businesses in Malaysia.
Axiata president and group CEO Jamaludin Ibrahim expressed his highest gratitude to the Prime Minister and government for the continued support and trust, adding: “As we continue to grow and make a difference in Malaysia and the markets where we operate, we are grateful to the Prime Minister for personally championing our cause.
“Since our inception in 2008, Axiata’s revenue has grown more than double while market cap grew almost two-fold. We have also provided dividends amounting to RM12.1 billion and contributed close to RM9.7 billion in tax, spectrum and license fees.
“We consistently go beyond our commercial objectives – especially in talent development, Bumiputera Empowerment Agenda, vendor and entrepreneurial development, and more recently in financial inclusion. As a Malaysian GLC, it is our duty and privilege to serve the underserved and contribute to the larger goals of the nation.”
Android users can download Boost from the Play Store while iOS users can download from the App Store.
