Digi Business, Cisco team up to bridge cybersecurity awareness

  • Free webinar to assist local entrepreneurs protect their businesses online
  • Cyberattacks likely have increased during the pandemic lockdown in 2020

Digi Business, Cisco team up to bridge cybersecurity awareness  Digi Business is collaborating with Cisco Systems Malaysia to bring a two-episode webinar series to promote awareness on cybersecurity to local small medium enterprises (SMEs).

In a statement, the telco invited SMEs to participate in this free webinar titled “MyDigitalSME x Cisco Umbrella,” which will be hosted on Digi Business’s Facebook page begining Nov 18.

While the past year has seen a major shift in businesses going online to sustain through the pandemic, Digi claimed that the number of cyberattacks have also intensified with cybersecurity related cases increasing by 82.5% during the MCO in 2020 alone.

The two episodes of this webinar are specifically designed to address this issue by educating the SMEs on the types of cyberattacks and its potential risks, and how SMEs can protect themselves from business disruptions and protect their brands and reputation, Digi said.

Each episode will be hosted by cybersecurity experts from Cisco and Digi Business who will share tips, advice, and their experience on how SMEs can shield their businesses against online threats.

On Nov 18, between 1pm and 2pm, the topics is: "Learn the 1-2-3s of cyber security," while on Dec 2, between 2pm and 3pm, it will be: "Common cyber security questions answered."

Digi’s chief business officer, Eugene Teh, said SMEs are the backbone of Malaysia’s economy.

He added that while it is encouraging to see more SMEs taking the digital leap and transforming their business, it is crucial that Digi continue to build a business community that is cyber resilient.

“As their trusted digital partner, we hope that by sharing relevant knowledge and best practices, we can help them elevate and at the same time, ready to safeguard their businesses,” he said.

Raz Mohamad, director, commercial and small business, Southeast Asia, Cisco recognises that SMEs in Malaysia have digitalised rapidly over the last 18 months, driven by the need to leverage technology to survive and thrive in this challenging environment.

“Many SMEs who have decided to digitalise their operations may not have the technical knowhow or capacity of a specialised IT department to help them navigate potential cyber-threats or understand the consequences of cyberattacks.”

“This is a great opportunity to raise the level of cybersecurity awareness and help SMEs lay the right foundation for their security posture and build their business on a strong foundation of trust,” he said.

Digi Business is also working with Cisco to bring Cisco Umbrella, a cybersecurity solution for Digi Business customers to provide DNS-level protection for their devices, network, software and data – which the company claimed will be all at a minimal fee.
