Fintech takes centrestage at SC’s World Capital Markets Symposium

THE Securities Commission Malaysia (SC) said that the World Capital Markets Symposium (WCMS) 2015 will feature global technology founders and experts sharing ideas and insights on Markets and Technology: Driving Future Growth Through Innovation.
 
The thought leadership platform will feature discussions on financial services technology (fintech) such as peer-to-peer lending, equity crowdfunding, digital wallets, crypto-currencies and more, the SC said in a statement.
 
The two-day symposium kicks off today at the Mandarin Oriental Kuala Lumpur. Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak will deliver a keynote address, while SC chairman Ranjit Ajit Singh will deliver the opening address.
 
Notable speakers include Paddy Ashdown, Member of the House of Lords and President of Royal Institute of International Affairs; NR Narayana Murthy, founder of Infosys; and Dr Marc Faber, executive director of Marc Faber Ltd.
 
Prominent fintech and business leaders include John Goodall, cofounder and CEO (chief executive officer) of Landbay UK; Chris Brycki, founder and CEO of Stockspot; Theresa Burton, deputy chief executive of Trillion and cofounder of Buzzbnk; Leo Shimada, cofounder and CEO of Crowdo; Paul Schulte, chairman of Schulte Research; and Azran Osman-Rani, CEO of iflix Malaysia.
 
This year’s instalment will see a special session by people who have been involved in the architecture of the Asean Economic Community (AEC), the SC said in its statement.
 
The panellists will discuss the opportunities that could be harnessed and the challenges that need to be overcome to achieve the ambitious targets of the AEC.
 
WCMS 2015 will close with market specialists discussing the outlook for the European and Asian markets in 2016.
 
The WCMS series is a platform to promote informed debate led by global opinion leaders, policy makers, influencers, domain experts, business and market leaders on the big questions confronting us today – creating value, promoting sustainable, inclusive growth, opportunities for employment and transforming societies, the SC said.
 
Since its debut in 2009, the symposium has attracted 1,000 delegates over the years across the globe.
