Foodpanda partners MoF, MDEC to spur e-commerce spendingFOODPANDA Malaysia announced a collaboration with the Ministry of Finance (MoF) and MDEC to encourage the adoption of e-commerce by micro, small and medium enterprises.

In a statement, the company said the collaboration is aimed at encouraging online consumer consumption through the Shop Malaysia Online and Go E-Commerce initiatives that will run from July to December 2021.

It said the Ministry, through a co-funded matching programme with Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) and selected e-commerce platforms, will provide on-boarding training, seller subsidy and sales support to micro, small and medium enterprises from July 1 to year-end.

This is to widen their market reach, as well as assist in their shift towards business digitisation through Go E-Commerce, Foodpanda said.

Similarly, foodpanda said the Malaysian government will also be co-funding digital discount vouchers with selected e-commerce platforms to encourage online consumer consumption through Shop Malaysia Online.

“We are honoured to partner the MoF and MDEC for this campaign alongside other e-commerce platforms,”said Sayantas Das, managing director of foodpanda.

“We believe that micro, small and medium enterprises (SMEs) play an important role in our economy and hope to be able to support them in recovering and continuously progressing post-pandemic through these initiatives.”

MDEC’s chief executive officer (CEO) Surina Shukri said, “With strong support from the government and effective public-private collaborations, we aim to further catalyse the growth of e-commerce in Malaysia and sustain livelihoods and jobs in the process.”

From July 1 to Dec 31, both new and existing foodpanda users will be able to enjoy RM8 off (with a minimum order value of RM25) on all their favourite food from Subway, Nando’s, Tealive, Pasta Panas, Marrybrown, Dave’s Deli, McDonald’s, KFC and more with the promo code, MAKANONLINE, Foodpanda said.

Users can also enjoy the same discount for dinner orders (6pm onwards) with the promo code, EATONLINE from July 15 to Dec 31, it added.

Both the Shop Malaysia Online and Go E-Commerce initiatives are part of the short-term Economic Recovery Plan announced by the Malaysian prime minister.
