ZEBRA Technologies Corporation, a provider of solutions and services that give enterprises real-time visibility into their operations, announced that Indonesia’s SaveMax has adopted its 2D Point of Sale (PoS) imagers in the retailer’s 60,000-square-foot store located in Cibubur.
SaveMax Super Grosir Information System and Technology director Joanito Iwan Tamsil said that “SaveMax decided to utilise Zebra’s 2D scanners as we recognise that, in order to thrive in the highly competitive retail industry in Indonesia, we must approach things differently, and incorporate new technologies into our business. We have tested various brands of scanners, and Zebra impressed us with its well-rounded, extensive and seamless scanning capabilities.”
The 2D imagers enable cashiers to scan 1D or 2D barcodes at any angle, expediting the checkout process.
Indonesia’s retail industry is expanding by leaps and bounds, and is currently ranked as the 12th most retail-friendly economy amongst 30 emerging markets. The country was also ranked the 5th most attractive retail business in the 2016 edition of the Global Retail Development Index – which measures the attractiveness of the retail sector in developing economies.
The fast-growing population, emerging middle-class consumers, increasing employment rate, and urbanisation are key drivers propelling the country’s retail industry.
The advancement and adoption of new technologies, such as connected devices, advanced PoS systems, mobile payments, etc., are also fuelling the industry’s growth.
Zebra’s DS7708 and DS4308 scanners deliver easy-to-deploy, two-dimensional (2D) scanning. The improved latest generation of 2D imagers are to read barcodes omni-directionally, thereby increasing productivity.
With Zebra’s 123Scan scanner configuration and management tool, SaveMax can now configure and deploy the DS7708 within minutes, making it scalable for big retail stores, while at the same time reducing Total Cost of Ownership (TCO).
123Scan also offers the ability to generate a 2D command code on a mobile phone and the PoS imagers can be configured by scanning the code. The command code can also be sent via text message to remote locations – saving on service calls.
SaveMax is the first retailer in Indonesia to deploy the DS4308 handheld scanner. The DS4308 can scan scratched, smudged, poorly printed, or damaged barcodes.
Both the DS4308 and DS7708 support scanning virtual 1D and 2D barcodes from mobile phone displays.
According to Zebra Technologies Asia Pacific senior technical director Wayne Harper, “data is everywhere and will continue to grow incrementally in the enterprise environment, and 2D scanners work to capture that data effectively with little human intervention.
“In Indonesia, Zebra is excited to be working with retail businesses like SaveMax, to enhance and future-proof its infrastructure to meet the rising demands of the market. The local retail industry continues to grow, and we are hopeful that more local businesses will consider using 2D imagers in their stores in the future.”
