SMEs at a briefing on automation. The Covid-19 reset of the rules of business means that all SMEs also need to master the skills of e-commerce. This is an area MDEC aism to address with the first ever e-dagang or e-commerce expo.

Malaysia’s Movement Control Order (MCO), in force since 18 March 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic, has led to an increased use of digital platforms and e-Commerce. This is one of the positive outcomes in times of adversity. With more than 26 million Malaysians, representing 80% of the population, now connected to the Internet, the MCO has undeniably accelerated fundamental and long-term shift in consumer behaviour and interactions on both domestic and global fronts.

Recognising the imperative for SMEs to embrace digital transformation and better mitigate the immediate impact of Covid-19, the Malaysian Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) is hosting its first e-Dagang (e-Commerce) Expo (eDX). Running from 4 May until 8 May 2020, this inaugural, nationwide initiative is a timely response to Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin’s recent statement that the government wants to speed up digitalisation to address the new normal.

The five-day virtual event aims to engage 500,000 micro-sellers, local businesses and exporters on the benefits of eCommerce. eDX will offer free webinars and panellist sessions on tips and tricks to succeed in e-Commerce, growing beyond borders and inspirational success stories. Geared to take business offline to online and onwards to export, the sessions will be headlined by MDEC’s e-Commerce partners such as Shopee, Lazada, Carousell, Alibaba, BliBli and eBay.

From learning how to set up an online store using easy everyday tools, to listing their products on eMarketplaces and growing their sales nationwide and globally, eDX seeks to empower SMEs and aspiring business owners of all sizes. Additionally, there will also be an opportunity for attendees to enjoy discounts provided by participating eCommerce enablers through fire-sales.

MDEC is committed to accelerating e-Commerce adoption amongst local SMEs through its https://www.go-ecommerce.my/campaign/eDX  web registration which opens from 1st May, 10am onwards. To secure your spot, visit www.go-ecommerce.my
