Pikom secretary Sean Seah appointed to Witsa board

THE National ICT Association of Malaysia (Pikom) announced the appointment of Pikom secretary Sean Seah (pic) to the board of the World Information Technology and Services Alliance (Witsa), a leading consortium of ICT industry association members from over 80 global economies. Founded in 1978, Witsa has members who represent more than 90% of the world ICT market.

Seah has been the founder of a number of successful ICT companies over the past 20 years, including Afor Pte Ltd which was floated in Singapore Stock Exchange and rebranded as Epicentre Holdings Limited, Galasys PLC which was floated in London Stock Exchange, SCCW Holdings Sdn Bhd and SEATech Ventures Corp in the United States.

Seah began his career in the Silicon Valley after graduating with a Masters in Computer Science from California State University in 1993, working as a software application developer for Software Publishing Corporation and Netscape Communications Inc.

Armed with a decade of experience working for these companies in the United States as well as for Sun Microsystems in Greater China, Seah returned Malaysia in 2004 to embark on an entrepreneur journey and he has not looked back since.

In Witsa, he will be representing the interests of Pikom members, highlighting the value propositions of the ICT companies for investment needs, seeking opportunities for multi-lateral trade and holding high-level discussions with other member economies on public policies to promote ICT growth.

As a representative of the 32-year-old private sector ICT association, Seah’s appointment is timely as in 2020, Malaysia will be hosting the 23rd edition of the Word Congress of Information Technology (WCIT), the signature global ICT event of Witsa and Pikom will play a central role in organising this ICT business conference. Seah is a key member of the WCIT 2020 Malaysia organising committee.

WCIT 2020 Malaysia, scheduled to be held from Sept 13 to 16, is expected to attract over 4,000 visionaries, captains of industry, government leaders and academics from more than 80 countries.

“I am deeply honoured to be appointed to the Witsa board especially as Malaysia gets ready to host the WCIT 2020. As a member of Witsa, Pikom is appreciative to be given the responsibility to host this global event of this scale. WCIT 2020 will set Malaysia as the gateway to ICT industry in the Southeast Asia.” said Seah.

The WCIT 2020 Malaysia theme Digital Economy in Action was conceptualised to reflect that the advent of the digital economy has unleashed a flow of possibilities that are limitless, borderless and continuous.

Pikom chairman Ganesh Kumar Bangah expressed his appreciation to Witsa for appointing a representative of Pikom to be on the board of the global ICT organisation.

“I would like to congratulate Pikom secretary Sean Seah on his new appointment which reflects the continuous important role that the Malaysian private sector ICT Association is playing in the international affairs of the growth of the global ICT industry,” said Ganesh.
