Surina Shukri is new MDEC CEO

COMMUNICATIONS and Multimedia Minister Gobind Singh Deo announced in a statement on Jan 15 the appointment of Surina Shukri as the new CEO of the Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC).
According to the statement, Surina’s (pic, right) appointment as CEO, effective Jan 16, is for three years. Her appointment confirms a report in DNA when we broke the story of her appointment on 1st Jan.
She will replace former CEO Yasmin Mahmood who resigned on Dec 7, 2018.
“MDEC has successfully led the construction of the digital economy ecosystem in the country and has brought a lot of benefit to the people,” said Gobind.
“I am confident that Surina will strive to continue building MDEC with her leadership, wealth of experience and take MDEC to a higher level. Not only in Malaysia, but on a global stage as well.”
According to Gobind, Surina developed a large part of her career in the US and has returned to Malaysia to play her new role in MDEC.
She has about 20 years of experience working in multinational companies like JPMorgan Chase & Co and startups in industries such as financial, natural resource, energy and technology.
