TM’s UniFi service hits 500K-subscriber mark

  • Landmark achieved just ahead of UniFi’s third-anniversary
  • HSBB now available in 94 areas covering more than 1.34 million premises passed

TM’s UniFi service hits 500K-subscriber markTELEKOM Malaysia Berhad (TM) said its high\-speed broadband (HSBB) service UniFi has surpassed the 500,000-subscriber mark, ahead of its third anniversary in March.
 
UniFi is now available in 94 areas covering more than 1.34 million premises passed, which includes 64 areas in the Klang Valley, five in Penang, four in Kedah, nine in Johor, two in Melaka, two in Negeri Sembilan, two in Perak, three in Sarawak; and one each in Terengganu, Pahang and Sabah.

Coverage areas include key economic and industrial zones in the Klang Valley, Cyberjaya, Putrajaya, Kulim Hi-Tech Park and Iskandar Malaysia, TM said in a statement.
 
“This is a clear indication of how Malaysians have indeed taken to high speed broadband and its benefits,” said Imri Mokhtar, executive vice president of TM’s Consumer business.
 
“At the current rate of more than 35%, our take-up shows no signs of slowing down,” he said, adding that TM now has more than two million broadband customers for its UniFi and Streamyx services.
 
TM said it would also continue to target its UniFi service at small and medium enterprises (SMEs).
 
“We have introduced new packages of UniFi BIZ with even greater speeds (BIZ30 and BIZ50), with options to add on HyppTV to further enrich their businesses with an exciting infotainment experience; reflecting TM’s commitment to fulfill the needs of various market segments,” said Azizi A Hadi, executive vice president of TM’s SME business.
 
“As SMEs contribute significantly to Malaysia’s GDP and are a force to be reckoned with in Malaysia’s economic development, we encourage SMEs to fully utilize our comprehensive suite of products, services and solutions that would help them to grow and expand their business thereby creating more value for end customers,” he added.
 
UniFi is a triple-play service comprising high speed Internet, video (Internet Protocol Television or “IPTV”) and voice, with speeds from 5Mbps up to 50Mbps via fiber-to-the-home or FTTH technology.
 
The HyppTV IPTV service is available to viewers through both residential and business UniFi packages. For residential customers, HyppTV currently offers its customers 114 channels with 28 channels in High Definition (HD), consisting of 71 premium linear channels, 23 Video-On-Demand (VOD) genres and 20 interactive channels. HyppTV for Business offers 62 channels, including 14 HD channels.
 
All UniFi packages also include WiFi access at close to 27,000 TM WiFi sites nationwide.
