Big data powered network security from Sourcefire

  • Three new models: FirePOWER 7010 (50 Mbps), FirePOWER 7020 (100 Mbps) and FirePOWER 7030 (250 Mbps)
  • Creates forensic fingerprints of files to identify known malware, track file movement and identify attack targets

Big data powered network security from SourcefireSOURCEFIRE has launched its latest FirePOWER appliance family in Malaysia, saying it can protect networks from sophisticated malware, advanced persistent threats (APTs) and targeted attacks.

FirePOWER also provides visibility and control of modern threats on the network, right from the point of entry, to propagation, and with post-infection remediation, the company said in a statement.

“Sourcefire’s FirePOWER minimizes the propagation of advanced malware by creating forensic fingerprints of files to identify known malware, track file movement and identify attack targets for focused remediation,” said Ivan Wen (pic), country manager of Sourcefire Malaysia,

He said that thanks to Sourcefire’s big data analytics capabilities, this also “delivers continuous file analysis and retrospective alerting to notify users of malicious files. It provides similar protection for devices, enabling visibility into malware trajectory, and rapid cleanup to avoid re-infection.”

The three new models of the FirePOWER appliances include FirePOWER 7010 (50 Mbps), FirePOWER 7020 (100 Mbps) and the FirePOWER 7030 (250 Mbps).

In conjunction with the launch of new FirePOWER devices, the company also released the Sourcefire 5.1.1 software which the company claimed enhances network awareness and strengthens threat prevention.

“The FirePOWER 7000 Series appliance lineup and the new Sourcefire 5.1.1 software features file-type detection and control, as well as security intelligence for IP reputation and blacklisting,” said Wen.

The latest FirePOWER appliance family comprises Next-Generation Intrusion Prevention Systems (NGIPS), application control, Next-Generation Firewall (NGFW) models, and advanced malware protection under one universal security platform to support the industries’ evolving security needs.

For Malaysia, both advanced malware protection for FirePOWER and 5.1.1 will be available at the end of November, while the new FirePOWER 7000 series appliances will be out the next three months.
