Kaspersky Lab names new Asia Pacific MD

• 23yrs’ sales channel experience in both vendor and distributor environments
• Responsible for APAC sales, marketing and business development

KASPERSKY Lab has announced the appointment of Peter Hewett (pic) to the position of managing director of Kaspersky Lab Asia Pacific, replacing Harry Cheung who retired after holding the position since 2008.
 
In his new role Hewett will be responsible for the company’s overall business operations in the Asia Pacific region, including sales, marketing and business development functions, Kaspersky Lab said in a statement. He will be based in Singapore.
 
He brings a range of expertise in development of regional business strategies to the role, and is helping to build on the company’s continued success in what is arguably the world’s most dynamic region, Asia Pacific.
 
“The ongoing economic boom in Asia has made the Asia Pacific region a market that is both fast growing and very challenging,” said chief business officer Garry Kondakov.
 
“We are prepared for this, offering a comprehensive line of fully-fledged security solutions backed up by a strong regional team that is now enhanced by Peter Hewett’s leadership.
 
“I truly believe that Peter will use his vast experience to take advantage of future market opportunities and lead our Asia Pacific business operations to a prominent position,” he added.
 
With 23 years of experience working in sales channels in both vendor and distributor environments, Hewett comes to Kaspersky Lab with a strong commercial understanding of business and consumer-oriented IT security solutions.
 
He will be helping lead Kaspersky Lab’s channel-driven strategy across the Asia Pacific region, the company said.
 
Hewett started his career in information security when he joined Sophos in 2004. He held various technical, sales and senior management positions in that company. He joins Kaspersky Lab after serving as sales director for Australia with the Westcon Group.
