Motorola Solutions opens new R&D centre in Penang

MOTOROLA Solutions Inc has opened a new research and development (R&D) centre in the northern Malaysian state of Penang.
 
The ‘Innoplex’ is equipped with state-of the-art laboratories, and product design and development capabilities, the company said in a statement. It is currently Motorola Solutions’ largest R&D facility outside the United States.

“The enhancement of human capital and contribution to the knowledge workforce in Malaysia has been a catalyst for growth and development of new technologies in communications, manufacturing and public safety,” he added.

The centre will focus on developing the next generation of mission-critical Land Mobile Radio (LMR), broadband-LTE (Long-Term Evolution) devices and system solutions for the company’s customers throughout the world.
 
The new premise encompasses 227,000 sq ft on seven floors and is linked via a bridge to the Motorola Solutions’ manufacturing facility, known as the Technoplex.
 
With the opening of this center, the Innoplex will assist to integrate the company’s operations in Penang into a single site.
 
Moreover, the new one-stop design centre will have approximately 1,200 engineers and support associates onsite, and will also accommodate teams from various disciplines including industrial design, software, electrical and electronics engineering, mechanical engineering and programme management.
 
The laboratories are fitted with advanced test equipment to conduct rigorous compliance testing of radio communications products, along with development of new products.
 
The Innoplex will also help the company consolidate all its R&D functions, creating an ideal environment for improved productivity and operational efficiency, Motorola Solutions said.
 
Motorola Solutions opens new R&D centre in PenangMalaysia has been a key market for Motorola Solutions in the Asia Pacific region, with a total investment of RM4 billion (US$1.3 billion) since its establishment here in 1974, the company said. It recently also launched its Global Solutions Support Centre and Network Operations Centre in Penang.
 
“The opening of the Innoplex represents a significant milestone for Motorola Solutions in Malaysia as we celebrate our 40-year presence in this country,” said Dr Hari Narayanan (pic), managing director, Penang Operations, Motorola Solutions Malaysia Sdn Bhd.
 
“The Innoplex is one of the largest design centres in Malaysia and in Motorola Solutions as well. As we consolidate all of our R&D facilities and functions, we look forward to success and achievement as our dedicated and capable team continues to develop innovative solutions for our customers,” he added.
