TM’s HyppTV to carry Astro sports channels

MEASAT Broadcast Network Systems Sdn Bhd (MBNS), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Astro Malaysia Holdings Berhad, has entered into an agreement with TM NET Sdn Bhd, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM).

Under the agreement, Astro SuperSport HD and Astro SuperSport 2 HD (collectively, the ASSP Channels) would be made available on TM’s Internet Protocol TV (IPTV) service, HyppTV, effective Aug 1.

The ASSP Channels will televise selected matches from the Barclays Premier League (BPL), and other sports content, the two companies said in a statement.

In addition to the ASSP Channels, the parties have also agreed to enter into a further agreement involving selected NJOI channels on HyppTV, subject to certain conditions, they said.

TM also signed on as the presenting sponsor for the Astro Malaysia Super League, Astro Malaysia Premier League, FA Cup and Malaysia Cup, aired on Astro Arena (Channel 801).

Through this collaboration, Astro and TM aim to provide Malaysians with greater choice and access to both local and international content, while sharing a common goal in supporting the advancement of Malaysian sports, especially Malaysian football, the two companies said.

“I am pleased that two industry leaders, Astro and TM, recognise the importance of sports in nation building and have come together to collaborate and share content that will benefit all Malaysian sports fans,” said Ahmad Shabery Cheek, Malaysia’s Minister of Communications and Multimedia, who officiated at the official signing ceremony.

“This is in line with the Government’s aim to make content more accessible and encourage further development of the local content industry across sports, entertainment, factual and other genres,” he said.

HyppTV now has a total of 110 channels, of which 29 channels are in High Definition (HD). The 110 channels comprise 25 free-to-air channels including eight radio channels, 49 premium channels, 16 Video-On-Demand (VOD) genres and 20 interactive channels.

With the two new sports channels, HyppTV now offers the HyppTV Sports Pack that bundles its 13 Sports channels; Astro SuperSport HD and Astro Supersport 2 HD, HyppSports HD, HyppSports HD2, HyppSports HD3, HyppSports HD4, FOX Football Channel HD, TRACE Sports HD, MUTV, HyppXtreme HD, HyppSports On Demand, FOX Football Channel ON Demand and HyppSports Academy.
