Maxis and Spotify in exclusive partnership

• Spotify Premium service plus 150MB of Internet data for RM10 a month
• LTE customers will get better music experience, Maxis says

MAXIS Berhad and Spotify have announced a partnership in which prepaid and postpaid Maxis customers now have access to the Spotify Premium service, along with 150MB of Internet data to access Spotify’s catalogue of over 20 million tracks, for RM10 (US$3.18) per month.
 
In a statement, Maxis said it is the first telco in the country to tie up with Spotify, the world’s largest music streaming service.
 
In April, rival DiGi Telecommunications had announced a similar partnership with music service Deezer.
 
“Our partnership with Spotify is a perfect fit as it will set the bar for a new era of music in Malaysia,” said T. Kugan, head of digital services at Maxis.
 
“With smartphone penetration continuing to expand in the country, we are also seeing a surge in demand for music access on mobile devices. What’s bringing this partnership together is the fact that our customers can take full advantage of our fastest and widest network in the country.
 
“Our LTE (Long Term Evolution) customers, in particular, enjoy a greater Spotify experience, as they get to ride on speeds that are generally five to 10 times faster than 3G, which means an even more seamless Internet experience with greater download speeds.
 
“This adds a whole new dimension to their lifestyles, enhancing their overall experience in consuming music digitally,” Kugan added.
 
Maxis was the first telco to roll out LTE or Fourth Generation (4G) mobile services in Malaysia.
 
“Spotify offers you the ultimate music experience on your mobile,” said Sunita Kaur, director for Asia at Spotify.
 
“Choose from millions of songs, from the very latest hits to the classics, all available in fantastic sound quality, instantly. What’s more, you can download your music and listen to it offline so you’re never without your favourite tunes.
