TM to provide metro and IPVPN services to UniSZA

TELEKOM Malaysia Berhad (TM) and Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin (UniSZA) Terengganu have signed a service agreement which will see TM providing Direct Over Metro-E (Dome) and Internet Protocol Virtual Private Network (IPVPN) services to the university.

Financial terms were not disclosed.

Under the five-year agreement, TM will upgrade the capacity of Internet connectivity at the UniSZA campus in Gong Badak in the state Terengganu to 1 Gbps. TM said in a statement.

UniSZA is TM’s first customer in the East Coast region to be provisioned with 1 Gbps access speed, the telecommunications company added.

“With an integrated and faster connection provided via TM’s Dome and IPVPN services, UniSZA would be able to enhance its network infrastructure, thus further improving its operational efficiencies and enriching the experience enjoyed by the campus community,” said Hamdan Ismail, vice president of TM’s Government business unit.

TM will also be connecting UniSZA’s main campus in Gong Badak with its other campuses (Tembila campus in Besut; its Kota campus in Kuala Terengganu; and its international campus in Kuala Lumpur) via TM’s IPVPN service.

This will further improve the university’s productivity and enable its community to access education-related applications in a faster and more organised manner, TM said in its statement.

With the enhanced connectivity, campus administrators, academicians and students would also be able to connect with the other campuses faster and more efficiently. In addition, UniSZA will be able to monitor its ICT network infrastructure at a centralised location in a secured environment, TM claimed.

The service has been made available at the campus since end of 2013, it added.
