4 key takeaways from Maxis’ Q2 2016 results: Page 4 of 4

During the second quarter, Maxis experienced a huge jump in terms of its postpaid customers’ data usage – more than 50% to 2.95GB per month, from 1.93GB per month in the first quarter.

It is believed to be one of the biggest quarter-on-quarter jumps registered by the company.

The huge uptake in data usage may have very likely been driven by the company’s decision to increase the data quota for its MaxisONE customers.

When people who regularly have to browse carefully with a 1-3GB monthly quota suddenly have 5-10GB of data, user behaviour can change. With the larger data quota, they may spend more time on YouTube, for example.

A different slide showed that 31% and 22% of Maxis’ data traffic is from YouTube and Facebook, respectively.
