Azizi A. Hadi appointed webe CEO, CC Puan now a non-executive director

TELEKOM Malaysia Bhd (TM) has announced the appointment of Azizi A. Hadi (pic above) as the new chief executive officer (CEO) and executive director of webe digital Sdn Bhd, formerly known as Packet One Networks (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd, effective Aug 1 2016, succeeding C.C. Puan.
Puan will continue on as a non-executive director on the webe board of directors, TM said in a statement.
Prior to the appointment, Azizi was webe chief operating officer.
“We are happy and proud to welcome Azizi as the new CEO of webe,” said TM group CEO Zamzamzairani Mohd Isa, also the webe chairman.
“With his vast industry and TM-wide experience and technical know-how, we are confident that Azizi would be able to bring webe to its next phase of transformation and growth as the company enters an exciting phase with the commercial availability of its service this year,” he added.
Azizi, 52, has more than 20 years of experience in the telecommunications industry, which includes roles in engineering, operations, sales, product development and management, TM said.
He first served the TM group in 2006 as general manager of Technology & Innovation at TM Retail. He was then promoted to vice president of Retail Product on in February 2009 and was responsible for the development and commercialisation of TM’s products and services.
He became executive vice president of TM’s SME unit in 2011 before assuming his role as chief operating officer of webe in 2014.
Azizi started his working life with the Royal Malaysian Army as an engineering officer in the Royal Signals Regiment from 1987 to 1996, where his main responsibilities were in planning tactical radio networks, evaluating new equipment and training.
He was also the country business development manager of Global One Communications, an international telecommunications service provider where he was entrusted with the country’s multinational sales in 1999.
His last stint before joining TM was at Maxis Communications Bhd as the head of its Broadband Business Unit and in Network Engineering and Operations.
Azizi holds a Masters of Business Administration from Universiti Putra Malaysia and a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from Wichita State University in the United States.
Zamzamzairani expressed his gratitude to Puan (pic) for his leadership and contribution to webe during his tenure.
“We would like to take this opportunity to record our highest appreciation to CC Puan for his leadership as P1’s founding member and contribution towards the growth and transformation of P1 into webe,” he said.
“Puan has played a pivotal role in capitalising the partnership synergies and executing the business strategies towards realising the entry of webe into the LTE (Long-Term Evolution) space,” he added.
