Celcom and Universiti Teknologi Petronas in wide-ranging pact

CELCOM Axiata Bhd and Universiti Teknologi Petronas (UTP) have inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that covers the latter’s wireless campus network as well as further collaboration in student development.
UTP is expanding its current wireless infrastructure at its campus in Bandar Seri Iskandar, Perak.
As the appointed partner, Celcom has deployed 600 WiFi access points, covering both indoor and outdoor areas within UTP to provide 1Gbps connectivity 24 hours a day to more than 8, 000 students and about 900 employees.
Financial terms were not disclosed. UTP is Celcom’s biggest education customer.
“Celcom and UTP are also keen to explore further avenues for student development, such as exposing them to the corporate world perspective,” said Celcom chief executive officer Shazalli Ramly.
This will include internship opportunities and entrepreneurial programmes, the company said in a statement.
“UTP is always committed to academic excellence in preparing its students to develop and thrive in their studies and ultimately, their career,” said UTP Vice Chancellor Dr Abdul Rahim Hashim.
