- Maxis launches Loker, a mobile-centric cloud-based storage solution
- All Maxis customers who sign up with Loker get a free 5GB account
MAXIS has introduced a personal cloud service, which the company claimed will enable users to share their content on social networking sites such as Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, and via e-mail.
The "Loker" service is available on Android and BlackBerry devices and tablets, as well as PCs and Macs, with more device platforms to be made available soon, it said.
All Maxis customers who sign up will receive 5GB (gigabyte) storage space for free, allowing them to sync, store and share their digital content including pictures, videos, music, and contacts from their mobile phones, tablets or PCs, the company said in a statement.
Customers who want more storage space have the option to upgrade the 5GB storage space at any time to 10GB at RM15 (US$5) a month or 25GB at RM25 (US$8) a month.
T. Kugan, head of product, device, innovation & roaming, said recent trends have shown that Malaysians are one of the most active in sharing their experiences online using pictures and videos.
"We are pleased to provide the Loker service that will enable customers to continue to do so safely and securely without the limitations of physical storage on their devices.
"With Loker, our customers will have the freedom to store a much higher volume of digital content. A 5GB storage space is equivalent to 5,000 pictures or 2,500 songs," he added.
Maxis said customers can be assured that all their content and data kept in their Loker account is secure and safeguarded as it is stored in the Maxis Cloud.
Maxis Loker will automatically back-up and sync content whenever Wi-Fi is available or via Maxis’ 3G network. The saved content will be differentiated under specific categories such as "photos," "videos," and "contacts" for convenient navigation.
