Acer unveils the new Swift X ultrathin laptop

• Packs AMD Ryzen 5000 series, RTX 3050 Ti GPU in 17.9mm-thin chassis
• Features 2TB of SSD storage, 16GB RAM at 1.39kg weight; 17 hour battery life

THE recent Next@Acer global conference saw a slew of new announcements from the Taiwanese computer maker. There are new gaming-centric devices, new consumer laptops, and fresh entries into their line of ConceptD machines.

In a statement, Acer also announced that they have joined the RE100 initiative, pledging to achieve 100% renewable energy use by the year 2035.

The announcement that takes the cake though is the Swift X, the newest member of Acer’s line of ultrathin devices. This laptop packs an AMD Ryzen 7 5800U mobile processor with an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 Ti Laptop GPU into a chassis just 17.9mm thin.

Rounding up the internal specs are 2TB of SSD storage and 16GB of RAM, on top of a fast-charging 59W battery that Acer claims offers up to 17 hours of use.

This makes the Swift X, on paper at least, one of the most versatile portable laptops out there – something capable for both work and play, without being tremendously bulky as it weighs a mere 1.39kg.

It does sound like a heavy-duty laptop, though Acer has a cooling system led by a fan with fifty nine 0.3mm blades and a pair of D6 copper heat pipes for thermal efficiency.

Additionally, an air inlet keyboard design works to disperse around 8 to 10% more heat than a standard keyboard, while a stereo ring with an inclined plane sitting along the top of the fan adds 5 to 10% improvement in airflow.

For its display, the Swift X features a 14-inch FHD IPS display with an 85.7% screen-to-body ratio, 300 nits of brightness and 100% sRGB, so it works just fine for video and photograph editing.

The Acer Swift X is set to arrive in North America in June, with prices starting at about US$900. Acer has yet to reveal the availability and pricing in Malaysia yet, though prices can vary by region.
