ASUS’ Republic of Gamer’s brand is typically reserved for its high-end gaming PCs. Now that honour has been bestowed on a new product: the ROG Phone.
Labelled as a gamechanger with extraordinary performance coupled with incredible visuals and responsive controls to boot, Asus is betting a lot on this phone as it looks to compete head-on with other brands.
The ROG Phone will certainly have a lot of competition with phones like the Razor Phone 2, Xiaomi Black Shark and even Huawei’s Mate 20 X on the horizon.
Nevertheless, Asus is moving on full steam ahead with the ROG phone. With gaming embedded within its very DNA, the ROG Phone comes equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor that boasts clock speeds of up to 2.9GHz. This is coupled with Adreno 630 GPU to deliver graphical performance that is said to be consistent, smooth and with no lag.
Other specs you have to know is that the ROG Phone comes with up to 8GB of RAM and up to 512GB of internal storage.
All that power is meaningless if the connectivity is slow when playing online mobile games. Fortunately, the ROG Phone packs ultrafast wireless connectivity with Cat 18 LTE and the latest 802.11 ad gigabit-class WiFi.
As a gaming phone, the ROG Phone is expected to run the latest demanding games. With that in mind, Asus said it has developed a GameCool system that effectively cools the internals for maximum performance and has a four-speed fan system that ensures it can go on during marathon gaming sessions.
Visually, the ROG Phone’s 6-inch AMOLED Full HD+ display has a 90Hz refresh rate for blur-free images and a wide colour gamut to present game worlds in great clarity. The display is flanked by two loud front-facing stereo speakers.
Apart from that, the ROG Phone comes equipped with a 4,000mAh battery with support for Quick Charge 4.0 fast charging. Just to give you an idea how long it can last, Asus claims the phone can last up to 7.2 hours while gaming on WiFi, 14 hours of videos over WiFi and 50 hours of streaming music.
To help gamer’s stay comfortable during their long gaming sessions Asus has its AeroActive Cooler accessory. More than just a clip-on fan to keep the ROG Phone cool, it also provides an additional side-mounted USB-C connector and a 3.5mm headphone jack.
The side connector is also used for Asus’ expansion modules that include the Mobile Desktop Dock for times when you need to game on the big screen at home and TwinView Dock that adds a second screen that opens up more possibilities for live streamers and adds a 6,000mAh battery to boost ROG Phone’s battery life.
Asus has revealed that the ROG Phone will be priced at RM3,499 for the 128GB variant and RM3,999 for the 512GB variant. According to Asus both variants of the phone will come bundled with Asus’ AeroActive Cooler accessory and a complementary ROG Phone case, both of which are estimated to be worth RM450.
Asus adds that other accessories for the ROG Phone, most notably the Mobile Desktop Dock and TwinView Dock will be available at RM599 and RM999 respectively.
Pre-orders for the ROG Phone will start from now until Nov 4. The phone will be available through its online partners: Lazada and Shopee while it is available physically at Asus Brand Stores.
