HTC getting into games development

HTC is developing its first virtual reality title for its Vive virtual reality headset. Front Defense is a wartime shooter which will see players utilise a variety of ‘classic’ weapons, such as pistols, rifles, grenades and anti-tank rockets.

It is the first release from HTC’s internal team and joins a selection of non-game experiences also in development for the platform, including a ‘boating and fitness’ title and concept title Ruckus Ridge, described as “allowing consumers to experience the sensory shock potential and diversified development virtual reality brings”.

The game is expected to be shown at Computex in Taiwan this week. The move follows HTC’s announcement of its US$100-million Vive X accelerator, designed to encourage developers around the globe to build experiences for the company's VR device.

Initially based in three cites, San Francisco, Beijing and Taipei, the network is designed to provide developers with access to VR specialists, as well as potential mentors to help build their studio. Other benefits include links with possible investors and fellow creators, plus more generalised support services in areas such as accounting, finance, HR and legal from HTC.
