- Boasts other add on features that include enhanced audio and mobile photography
HTC Malaysia has introduced its new U11 smartphone that is touted as the world's first smartphone that you can squeeze to interact with.
On the outside, the shiny new device from HTC looks like it has a liquid glass surface running on top. It adds a new way to interact with your smartphone as the latest HTC handset uses the Edge Sense feature that lets you perform actions like take photos, launch Facebook or any other app with a simple squeeze.
Edge Sense also helps if you are texting on the go by activating Voice to Text to transcribe messages whenever it detects a squeeze with the onscreen keyboard active.
The squeeze function can be customised to open email or launch games. For example, you can set it to snap a photo within Snapchat by assigning the squeeze area to activate the camera button.
The feature works even when the user is wearing gloves.
According to HTC, the U11’s 5.5-inch Quad HD liquid glass surface has a curved look to achieve a 3D glass on the front and back.
The U11 is also IP67 rated water-resistant so you don't need to worry about splashes or spills ruining the phone.
Under the hood the phone comes powered by the top-end Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor, 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage, offering plenty of power and room to store all your content.
Other features include the HTC U Sonic with Active Noise Cancellation that monitors the environment's sound levels and adjusts to any new noises or disturbances.
HTC’s BoomSound Hi-Fi edition speakers have received an upgrade that delivers more volume and dynamic range audio. It even has a woofer for louder and clearer bass tones.
The microphones also received an upgrade with four Omni-directional microphones that provides 3D audio recording to record sounds from all directions.
The HTC U11'S ships with a USB C to 3.5mm adapter with built-in DAC that is said to offer even better audio performance.
Just like other flagship smartphones, it has a fingerprint reader so you can unlock your phone with a tap of a finger.
HTC said it is also focusing on the HTC U11’s camera as it boasts a 12-Megapixel camera featuring HTC’s Ultra Pixel 3 technology.
The camera is decked out with a host of features that include UltraSpeed autofocus, auto HDR Boost, a wide f/1.7 aperture, multi-axis optical image stabilisation and even a Pro mode with long exposure mode for night shots.
The new HTC U11 also has an upgraded front camera with a high-resolution 16-Megapixel sensor and an UltraPixel light sensor for great looking selfies be it during the day or night.
The HTC U11 will be priced at RM3,099 and is available from late June 2017. It will come in three colours: silver, blue and black.
