HTC’s new smartphone is all about U

HTC recently launched two new smartphone models the U Ultra and U Play in Malaysia.

Encased in a 3D contoured liquid design, the curved glass construction reflects light to create a distinct look under different lighting. The back of the device is also polished to create a glass screen with smooth edges that fit comfortably in the hand.

“Our all-new line of HTC U devices are designed to grow with you and develop a bond with you, to help realise the potential that comes from being different,” said HTC Global president of smartphones and connected devices business Chia-Lin Chang.

Both the U Ultra and U Play are the first HTC smartphones to introduce its new personal artificial intelligence (AI) called HTC Sense Companion.

HTC says that the AI is constantly learning from the user and is able to provide smart suggestions such as what to wear for the day based on the weather or remind you to charge the device at optimal times to help it last the day.

The new smartphones also use voice recognition system to listen to every command allows users to interact with it by saying a word to unlock it, take or reject incoming calls, send messages and even provide hands-free navigation.

A unique feature of the 5.7in phablet-sized U Ultra is an always-on second screen that sits on the top of the device that gives you easy access to your top contacts, app shortcuts and event notifications.

Putting you in the spotlight is HTC’s new UltraPixel mode that it claims gives the front camera four times more light sensitivity for night shots. Turning the device around, HTC U Ultra’s 12-Megapixel UltraPixel and the U Play’s 16-Megapixel rear camera with fast laser focus to capture every moment with great precision.

The HTC U Ultra and U Play will be available in Malaysia from early March onwards at US$672 (RM2,999) and US$4296 (RM1,899) respectively.
