HUAWEI has wasted no time to bring its new P20 and P20 Pro flagship phones to Malaysia in just one week after its official reveal in Paris.
The P20 and P20 Pro, priced at US$672(RM2,599) and US$853(RM3,299) respectively, will be available starting April 6. To commemorate the launch of the two phones Huawei has organised a roadshow that will run from April 6 - 8 at Sunway Pyramid and Sunway Carnival.
Huawei hopes to attract customers to buy its P20 and P20 Pro phones with extra goodies that include freebies worth more than RM999 in value. This include Canon Pixma E3170 printer, a Huawei Sport Bluetooth headphone (AM61) as well as a Huawei Rewards VIP card that entitles customers to enjoy additional benefits that from partners that include GoCar, AirAsia, TGV Cinemas and many others.
The P20 Pro is the world’s first triple camera system that pairs 40-Megapixel (RGB f/1.8), 8-Megapixel (telephoto f/2.4) and 20-Megapixel (monochrome f/1.6) sensors to work together.
Meanwhile, the P20 gets a dual camera setup with a 12-Megapixel (RGB f/1.8) and 20-Megapixel (monochrome f/1.6). Both models enjoy shooting through Leica optics, a co-engineering collaboration between Huawei and Leica entering into its third year now.
Physically, the two models come encased in a slim glass and metal frame, 7.65mm thin for the P20 and 7.8mm thin for the P20 Pro, housing the phone’s beautiful big display. They are also built tougher with the P20 Pro has an IP67 rating allowing to survive dust and even being submerged in water as deep as 1m. The P20 while not as hardy with its IP53 rating, is able to survive a spray of water and is protected internally from dust.
Huawei has not missed out on the big display trend as the P20 has a 5.8-inch RGB LCD screen while the bigger P20 Pro has a 6.1-inch OLED display, keeping to the trendy 18.7:9 aspect ratio typical of FullView displays. Both boast a beyond full HD 2,240 x 1,080 resolution that is said to provide even richer detail.
Internally, both the P20 and P20 Pro are powered by Huawei’s top-of-the-line Kirin 970 processor and possess 128GB of internal storage. The P20 will come with 4GB of RAM while the P20 Pro comes with 6GB of RAM. They will run on EMUI 8.1 on top of Android 8.0 Oreo.
In addition, the two models will be compatible with two new audio accessories: Huawei FreeBuds and Huawei Active Noise Canceling Earphones though the company declined to confirm when the accessories will be made available.
At present the Huawei P20 and P20 Pro will be available in three colours: Black, Midnight Blue and Pink Rose. The new Twilight colour however will not be available at launch and Huawei has not confirmed when models in that colour will be available in Malaysia.
With that, we leave you with a quick hands on with the P20 Pro during the launch event.
