MWC 2017: Huawei reveals photography focused P10

AFTER weeks of teasing, Huawei took the wraps off its new P10  smartphones at MWC 2017.

Huawei once again heavily emphasised on the smartphone’s photography capabilities touting Leica’s involvement in the phone’s built-in camera’s development.

This time around the P10 will sport an 8-Megapixel Leica front camera to complement the Leica dual rear camera. The dual-camera setup will consist of a 12-Megapixel colour sensor and 20-MEgapixel monochrome sensor with an aperture of f/2.2.

The new front camera is said to let users take great portrait photography in Leica’s image style while the rear capture captures facial features with great detail. Huawei’s Hybrid Zoom is another new feature that allows users to focus on specific areas of an image while keeping the sharpness of the image.

Both the P10 feature an ultra slim, minimalistic form with rounded curves. Other features include a USB Type-C port and 3,200mAh battery that supports SuperCharge technology for fast charging.

Huawei calls the finish on the back a hyper diamond cut finishing. It provides nice tactile feeling to the phone and it is anti-scratch.

A departure from the P9 is the moving of the fingerprint sensor from the rear to the front. Now the fingerprint reader sits on the front where the home button traditionally is.

Huawei has added some additional features to the sensor to help users with navigating the menus with a short tap acting as a ‘back’ action and long tap to take you back to the home screen.

The P10 sports a 5.1-inch full HD display that is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 5.

On the inside, the P10 is powered by a Huawei Kirin 960 with 4GB of RAM that will run on Android 7.0 with Huawei’s EMUI 5.1 overlaid on top. The phone also comes with 64GB of storage along with expandable microSD card slot.

Huawei is releasing the P10 in a variety of different colours including Ceramic White, Graphite Black, Dazzling Gold, Rose Gold and many others.

According to Huawei, the P10 will be available in Europe and China from March 2017 followed by Asia in April. It will priced at €649 (RM3,047/ S$965/ 9,157,355 Rupiah).
