MWC 2017: LG takes off with its G6

THE LG G6 is the Korean smartphone maker’s flagship model for 2017. The device was prominently displayed at LG’s booth at Mobile World Congress 2017.

The handset brings together the best of LG’s smartphone technologies and compacts it into one device. Though it has a large 5.7in display, LG managed to keep the phone sleek and comfortable to hold in one hand.

It has an odd 18:9 aspect ratio though the QHD+ quality resolution shows great looking pictures.

The major highlight of the G6 is its dual 13-Megapixel rear cameras. Instead of implementing a zoom function or dedicating one camera to capture in monochrome, the G6 offers a 125-degree wide-angle lens that allows users to fit more on the screen.

The front camera also benefits from a wide angle lens that makes taking great selfies effortless. It actually automatically snaps a picture when a face is in the frame, so you don’t need to press any buttons.

The G6 is ready for anything with its IP68 dust and water resistant build so you need not worry if you get a little water on the phone. LG says that the handset is sealed and can be immersed in up to one meter of water for up to 30 minutes, which is plenty of time to fish it out from the pool.

Another big feature of the G6 is that it comes with Google Assistant built-in. The intelligent personal assistant acts as a personal search engine for users and is smart enough to find content in your Google Photos, access your music playlist, advise you on travel and more.

It was previously touted as the first phone to receive Google Assistant after Google’s own Pixel phones but Google has since announced that the feature will be pushed out to more Android phones running on Android 7.0 Nougat and 6.0 Marshmallow.

Running down through the specs, the G6 will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 with 4GB of RAM, 32GB of internal storage that is expandable via microSD.

It also has a 3,300 mAh battery with a USB Type-C port.

The LG G6 is expected to launch in early March in Western markets though no Asian release date has been announced.
