Samsung Electronics Co Ltd has announced the Galaxy Watch4 and Galaxy Watch4 Classic, marking a new era for smartwatch innovation.
In a statement, the company claimed that the devices are the first smartwatches to feature the new Wear OS powered by Samsung, jointly developed with Google, and are equipped with One UI Watch, Samsung’s most intuitive user interface yet.
It said the Galaxy Watch4 series is bolstered with advanced hardware performance and delivers a more seamless, connected user experience.
These new devices have also been completely redesigned to provide consumers with the best tools to manage their wellness.
“We have seen incredible growth for the Galaxy Watch series as consumers have discovered the health benefits and convenience of wearables,” said TM Roh, president and head of mobile communications business at Samsung Electronics.
“We understand the path to wellness is different for everyone, so we built a robust suite of health and wellness features to give people a deeper and more helpful understanding of their overall fitness,” he added.
Advanced features
Galaxy Watch4 is equipped with Samsung’s 3-in-1 BioActive Sensor, which the company said is smaller, more compact design that doesn’t detract from measurement accuracy.
Its all-new body composition measurement tool gives users a deeper understanding of their general health and fitness, with key measurements like skeletal muscle, basal metabolic rate, body water and body fat percentage.
Now, users can easily check their body composition from their wrist with just two fingers and in about 15 seconds, the watch’s sensor will capture 2,400 data points, Samsung claimed.
In addition, the Galaxy Watch4 series offers a complete picture of your sleep patterns, Samsung said.
The compatible smartphone can even detects the sounds a user's snore, while the smartwatch measures blood oxygen level when a user sleeps., Samsung claimed.
Together with advanced sleep scores, you can learn more about your sleep patterns to get better rest, it said.
One UI watch, Wear OS
With One UI Watch, compatible apps are automatically installed on the watch when downloaded on the phone, where important settings are synced instantly, Samsung said.
Meanwhile, 'Auto Switch' feature ensures the earbuds can toggle audio between the phone and watch, depending on usage. Users can also effortlessly control their mobile experience with Bixby voice bezel and gesture controls.
The Galaxy Watch4 series is also the first generation of smartwatches to feature Wear OS, allowing users to tap into an expansive ecosystem right from the wrist with Google apps such as Google Maps and Galaxy services such as like Samsung Pay, SmartThings and Bixby.
This experience is backed by hardware upgrades including the enhanced processor, richer displays, and expanded memory, Samsung said.
The Galaxy Watch4 series boasts the first 5nm processor in a Galaxy Watch with 20% faster CPU and 50% more RAM, and a GPU 10 times faster than the previous generation, it said.
The resolution on the display has been increased to 450 x 450 pixels, so visuals are crisper and more distinctive. It is also armed with 16GB of memory, to store to download a user's favorite apps, music, and photos.
It is also equipped with eSIM technology, which enables users to enjoy the freedom of being able to leave their phone behind.
Samsung claimed battery life is up to 40 hours even with the advanced features being used.
