Oppo banks on AI for R15 Pro smartphone

• Rear and selfie cameras to capitalise on AI features
• To be available from June 31 at RM2,399

OPPO has announced its new R15 Pro smartphone that touted as an AI-enhanced camera phone.

The R15 Pro comes in two trendy colours: Cosmic Purple and Ruby Red that feature a striking aluminium frame and transparent glass.

Following the bezel-less trend of 2018, the R15 Pro comes with a large 6.28-inch display. The ultra-wide field of view gives more screen real estate for multitasking and enjoying content while on the go.

Building on the photographic prowess of its predecessors, the R15 Pro boasts 20-Megapixel and 16-Megapixel dual rear cameras along with a 20-Megapixel front camera.

Oppo said it utilises a Sony sensor IMX519 that is said to offer a larger photosensitive area and more powerful processing capabilities to make portraits standout.

The camera is supported by Artificial Intelligence (AI) that recognises up to 120 scenes and an AI Beauty feature that is said to help take the better pictures of people.

At its heart, the R15 Pro is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 processor, 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. If that generous amount of internal storage isn’t enough for you, there is always the option of expanding it even further with a microSD card.

There is also a built-in game acceleration mode that adjusts the system to devote all available resources to enhance mobile gaming.

In addition, it has a 3,430mAh battery supported by Oppo’s VOOC fast charging technology that is said to give two hours of talk time with just five minutes of charging.

Oppo’s ColorOS 5.0 is layered on top of Android 8.1. It features a refreshed user interface that is supported by additional modes like Game Mode for uninterrupted gaming, SpiltScreen for multitasking and an AI curated photo gallery.

According to Oppo the R15 Pro will be sold at US$603 (RM2,399) with pre-orders set to start from May 25 until May 31. Oppo is bundling a WeLoop XH3 smartwatch, worth US$100 (RM399), for pre-order customers.

Customers can place their order via Oppo’s website or through e-commerce sites like Lazada, Shopee or 11Street.
